Solar Panel Fraud

Exposing the Solar Industry’s Broken Promises

At Oklahoma Consumer Law Firm, we represent homeowners who were deceived by solar companies that oversold benefits, underdelivered on installation, and then disappeared when things went wrong.

Too many solar panel companies mislead customers with promises of “free energy,” nonexistent tax breaks, or guaranteed savings. What clients get instead: ballooning loan payments, defective systems, roof damage, and a company that won’t return their calls.

You may be a victim of solar panel fraud if:

  • You were promised significant energy savings that never materialized.
  • Your roof was damaged during installation.
  • You were told you qualified for tax credits or rebates that don’t exist.
  • The solar system was never connected to the grid or did not work properly.
  • You were rushed into signing confusing or incomplete financing agreements.
  • The company stopped responding after installation or closed operations.

Solar companies often partner with lenders to lock homeowners into long-term financing contracts without disclosing true costs, interest rates, or how the payments will affect their home equity and monthly bills. These practices aren’t just unethical — they can be unlawful.

If you believe you were misled or pressured into a solar panel contract, we can help. We’ll review your contract, assess any damage or misrepresentations, and pursue legal remedies under Oklahoma consumer protection law and federal statutes.

You were promised clean energy — not a financial trap. Let us hold them accountable.

How Solar Scams Happen and What to Watch For:

  • High pressure door-to-door sales – Representatives often prey on unsuspecting homeowners, enticing them with promises of savings and environmental benefits without fully disclosing the terms of solar leasing agreements. Representatives may rush homeowners into signing contracts before they have a chance to understand the agreement's intricacies
  • Misleading social media ads – Facebook, Instagram, and other platforms have become a hotspot for deceptive solar marketing. These ads often promise “no-cost” or “low-cost” solar programs but fail to explain how the deals actually work. Once you show interest, you may be subjected to aggressive sales tactics and misleading claims designed to pressure you into signing before you understand the financial impact.
  • Lack of clear documentation – Some companies intentionally fail to provide full contracts or supporting paperwork up front, pushing homeowners to sign electronically on tablets or phones without sufficient review. This lack of transparency leaves you vulnerable to hidden fees, inflated costs, and binding agreements you never fully consented to.
  • Undisclosed liens or property restrictions – In some cases, homeowners later discover that solar company placed a lien on their property or filed financing paperwork without clearly explaining the implications. These hidden encumbrances can interfere with refinancing, selling your home, or even qualifying for certain financial programs.
